Computing
At St John’s Walham Green we aim to prepare children for the technological advancements constantly taking place in the world, where future education, the workplace and other activities are increasingly transformed by access to these developments. Here we recognise that using technology correctly and confidently is an important tool in both the society we live in and in the process of teaching and learning. At the core of our computing curriculum is computer science, where children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to apply this knowledge through programming.
To build on this understanding, pupils are taught to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Digital literacy - the ability to express oneself and develop ideas through information and communication technology - is the other key ingredient of our computing curriculum, equipping pupils for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. Our aim is for all teachers and learners in the school to become confident in computing, showing the courage to make mistakes and try new things and using computing skills to enhance subjects across the curriculum.
All of this is done with our three core Christian Values at the heart of everything: courage, compassion and wisdom. Courage never to give up and to persevere even when the learning is challenging; compassion to help create a shared understanding of how to treat each other both inside and outside of the classroom and to appreciate that we all learn in different ways and at different paces; and wisdom to learn from our successes and our mistakes to help us make even wiser choices the next time.
